Hello all,
I have decided to document my jump into model car building. I will be posting thoughts, problems, and successes during this journey.
I decided to look for some training aids for beginners (something other then a forum or a magazine) and found a few books on Amazon. The book that I purchased where outdated but the princapals still applied. I did find two videos by Donn Yost, The Art of Airbrushing Show Quaility Models Cars and Tips and Tricks for Building Show Quality Model Cars.
I also found a web page that has some amazing cars. http://www.doctorcrankyslabratory.com Dr Cranky also has a book that I have ordered and will let you when it arrives.
One thing that I thought was pretty cool was the Dr Cranky was quick to email me back when I emailed him. Donn also emailed while I was in Afghanistan and I thought that was nice also.
I have joined two forums:
http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/
http://cs.scaleautomag.com/f/
I have also subscribed to Scale Auto Magazine and Model Cars Magazine, I have found that both of these magazines very informative and have ordered back issues of Scale Auto Magazine.
The first kit that I have attempted to build is a 1967 Pontiac GTO, MPC 1/25 Scale. The key word here is ATTEMPT. I'm really happy how my finish came out but ran into some issues with the Bare Metal Foil I thought I needed to apply.
I read a bunch of Tim Boyds articles on painting with spray cans. I followed his instructions and was amazed with how nice the body came out.
